History
Motherwell is a large town in North Lanarkshire with a population of just over 32,000. It has rich industrial heritage in steel and coal industries. However, nowadays it’s supporting more service-based industries and the North Lanarkshire Council Headquarters are situated in the town.
Places of Interest
- Strathclyde country park – The park has beautiful surroundings and is one of the most popular family attractions in central Scotland. It is also renowned for its water sports facilities to allow you to take up a new hobby or to have a fun day out with family.
- M & D Theme Park – Situated within Strathclyde park, this large amusement park has a variety of entertainment facilities including rollercoaster, water rides and is home to Scotland’s only indoor tropical rainforest, Amazonia.

Transport Links
Motherwell offers a number of great public transport links. It has three train stations, the main Motherwell station, as well as Airbles and Shieldmuir. The main station provides direct links to Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central. It also supports the West Coast Main Line from Glasgow to London.
Motherwell has excellent road links as it is located next to the M74 motorway leading to Anglo-Scottish border. Its also located close to the M8 motorway which connects Glasgow and Edinburgh.
